‘I’m sorry I don’t call; I’m sorry I’m no better friend.’ is drawn from a photograph that shows the artist with a close friend, captured in an embrace - a moment of unguarded joy, love, and support. In the work, the image is deconstructed into three layers. The first is a delicate pencil drawing, visible through a thin layer of poured glasswax. The second is a smaller, more intimate close-up of the embrace, cast in wax. The third reduces the image even further to a small glass square with a skin-like quality. All layers are embedded in plaster that also resembles skin, emphasising how deeply this friendship is woven into the artist’s own fabric.

The title gently shifts the viewer’s perspective on the scene: it asks how someone so important can slip into infrequent contact, even when one cares so deeply.
